The "Voiceover Gym Class"
Work out your commercial voiceover skills in a real recording studio with our fun and affordable workshop! Why a "Voiceover Gym Class"? Because your voice (and your skill at interpreting a script) is a muscle that needs exercise. Sneakers, towels, and gym shorts not required. (Bringing a water bottle is still a good idea.)
In this weekly Wednesday evening class at Studiomedia in Evanston, Maya will coach you through several real commercial voiceover scripts. You'll be challenged to give your best read and rise to a professional standardjust like an audition for a voiceover agent. But unlike at an agency, you'll get our tips and tricks for breaking down the script and delivering a fresh and compelling read.
We record the session, and email you the recording afterwards, so you can listen to and evaluate your performance at home.
Beginner or Advanced?
If you have a demo or an agent, and you've voiced professional jobs, this class will strengthen your audition skills.
If you're a beginner just getting your feet wet, this class is the place to stretch your limits.
Many students fit somewhere in between. And in the real world, there's no such thing as a "beginner" or "advanced" voiceover job. So instead of shoehorning students into categories, I give each member of the class individual attention. Over the course of six weeks, I will specifically choose commercial copy for you, and you'll gain an understanding of your specific strengths and the jobs you're likely to book. You'll also expand your range on new material.
Schedule and Pricing
The next Voiceover Gym Class starts Wednesday, Sept 15. Class meets for six consecutive Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm at Studiomedia. The September class is currently full, but we're planning to offer another starting in January 2011. Classes are limited to FOUR students, so the sooner you express your interest, the more likely you are to get a spot. Cost is $325 for six two-hour classes.
